Carson Cares

The following blog was written by Ms. Hailey Hildebran, an English Teacher at Carson High School. Ms. Hildebran is a first year teacher and is enthusiastic about all things Carson, especially the students!

Mrs. Efird and her Chemistry 2 class!
When I was applying for teaching jobs, I knew there were a few things I wanted in a school that I would not settle on- the biggest one being that I couldn’t work at a school where it wasn’t obvious that the students were cared about. Carson’s motto is “Students First!” It’s one of the first things you see on the webpage, and it’s a big part of what made me want to work at Carson. Two words that let me know from the start that the school and the people working in it cared about the students.

Since it's February, I'm sure most people were filled, at some point, with thought of Valentine's Day. The big question in everyone's mind being “How can I tell the person I care about most of all that I love them?” It’s easy to get wrapped up in the idea of having to do something bigger or more extravagant than the year before. However I’ve always wondered why we wait for one day to show somebody that they mean something to us.

I’ve always believed that there are a million different ways to tell somebody they’re important to you, even if you’re not explicitly saying the words “I care.”

At Carson, I’ve noticed a lot of the little ways that students are shown every day that they’re cared about and I wanted to share a few:

Faculty members that show up to sporting events, theatre productions, concerts, and any other extra curricular that students may be involved in.

Faculty members that come to work early or stay late to provide extra tutoring to students who need help.

Coaches that push their athletes to go the extra mile.

“How are you?”

 “I believe in you.”

 “I’m proud of you.”

And finally, the one thing my students hear a lot in my classroom:

“Have a great day and make wise decisions!”
