All About OCS!

The following blog was written by Michele Vaeth, JCHS's Occupational Course of Study Teacher.

The Occupational Course of Study has embraced the 1 to 1 device through North Carolina Virtual Public School this fall semester. Our students are enrolled in five sections-Math 1,Financial Math, and English1, 3, and 4. This program uses multiple facets to reach our population through guided notes, prezis, animoto, music, video, games, check-your-knowledge quizzes and pre and post assessments. Lots of opportunities are given to ensure each student succeeds academically.

Mr. Robert Ritchie, Mr. Denon Hogue and I help to guide them through all of these classes. We are a close knit crew that work together to pull the OCS students through classwork as well as the 900 work hours needed in order to get their diploma.

One unique feature that I am enjoying the most from being the face -to -face teacher is the immediate feedback I receive from the five NCVPS teachers. Daily we communicate with each other on a Google document. It includes a space for lesson plans, student shout outs, a summary of what happened in the classroom and feedback from the NCVPS teacher.  The feature allows positive feedback for each student as well as each of us.

When we are not engaged in an academic class, we are out and about on the school grounds and in the community earning hours. Our students graduate with 900 work hours. This is what gives them a diploma.
